It is a type of deformation-resistant asphalt suitable for roads with heavy traffic. It has been used in airport projects in recent years. Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA) are hot asphalt mixtures containing 70-80% coarse aggregate, 20-30% fine aggregate and a high percentage of bitumen around 6-7%. It was developed in Germany in the 1960s and was first applied in Kiel, Germany. Due to the density of coarse aggregate in the mixture, gaps occur between the aggregates. These gaps are filled with mastic mortar (fine aggregate, fillers, polymer modified bitumen, cellulosic fiber).

STONE MASTIC ASPHALT CONSTRUCTION CONDITIONS
– Bitumen and Mineral aggregate should be heated at a minimum of 175 ºC (degrees) and a maximum of 190 ºC (degrees). – Plant: It must be equipped to automatically feed the fiber additive and filler material at the desired weight. – The prepared hot mixture should be stored in a heated and insulated hot asphalt bunker. – The mixture must be kept in the hot asphalt bunker for a certain period of time. When the hot mixture is fed to the spreader, the air temperature should be min. 10 ºC and the mixture temperature should be min. 170º.
- Due to the higher amount of coarse aggregate (remaining on the No.4 sieve) in the mixture design, the load carrying capacity is higher than Dense Gradation (HG) Asphalt as the stone-to-stone contact increases.
Generally, basalt or similar aggregates with high silica content are used, thus their wear resistance is high. Studies show that TMA is more successful than HG asphalt in terms of surface texture and slip resistance. Since YG contains more modified bitumen than asphalt, it is more resistant to thermal cracks. Likewise, it has higher resistance against fatigue cracks. It provides quieter and more comfortable driving due to its mastic structure.
Power asphalt plantsis designed for stone mastic asphalt production and we have a module in our software system. We also produce cellulose dosing unit. With our experienced staff, we provide not only facility sales but also after-sales operational support and personnel training.
